These Tuna Nuggets are the epitome of store cupboard cooking. I will always have the ingredients to whip these up. These are so easy and use ingredients that you may already have. The ingredient list is small and there is plenty of room for you to add your own personal flair.
Tuna Nuggets are so simple to make just mix and shape, bread then bake. Bake you read that correctly. I’ve found a few recipes call for frying once you have breaded, I didn’t’t want to have to use excess oil. Therefore this recipe uses no oil whatsoever and you get a lovely crisp exterior to the soft tuna inside. You are sure find these just as satisfying as their chicken counterparts.
I like to serve these as homemade fish and chips by serving the Tuna Nuggets with parsnip chips and a pea puree. This is definitely a healthier version of a ‘chippy tea’ and honestly it really is delicious. Another great use for these nugz is as fantastic party food. The Tuna Nuggets with a pea puree dip are a treat. Or I also like a spicy tomato sauce however I will let you choose your accompaniment.
These are a great way to keep kids entertained and involved in preparing their food. Children like food that they can get their hands on, mixing and shaping is fun for them. There are many studies that show children are more willing to try food that they have helped prepare. Also if you call anything a ‘nugget’ then kids want to eat it.
I think these are the perfect Friday night supper for all the family. If you try these Tuna Nuggets let me know what you think in the comments below. Tag me on Instagram and use the #CUBBintheKitchen to be featured in my stories.

- 220 grams Tuna 2 tins
- 50 grams Breadcrumbs
- 3 Eggs
- 1.5 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 0.5 tsp Paprika
- Pinch of Salt
- More Breadcrumbs to Coat
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200ºC.
- In a bowl combine the drained Tuna, 50g Breadcrumbs, Eggs, Lemon Juice, Paprika & Salt. Mix to fully combine. The mix should be sticky and hold together well.
- Take a tablespoon measure and scoop out portions of the tuna mix, using your hands to roll them You should get about 15 nuggets. Roll them slightly fatter than you want them to end up as they will flatten as you coat them.
- Pour Breadcrumbs in a dish and place nuggets into the breadcrumbs covering with the breadcrumbs and gentle press down so they stick. If you wish you can flip them and repeat – be gentle as you do not want them to fall apart.
- Place the breaded nuggets onto a baking tray lined with parchment and bake in the oven for 30 mins turning halfway through.
