Disney World Snacks this is a big category in Disney Food terms. A snack is anything from a bottle of water through to an ice cream sundae. I’m not going to waffle on about every tiny time we had a cup of water I can however promise there will be waffles. I will mention if you can or cannot use a Disney dining plan snack credit for each snack listed. We were not using a dining plan this time but have in the past.
Day of arrival is always an interesting day, there’s the early start to get to the airport, the 8-9 hour flight, boarder control to get through, bags to collect and then the 45 minute travel to your hotel. You get to your room starving, and realise its still 5 o’clock. We tend to head straight out to get food, then return to unpack and be in close proximity to the bed we can collapse on. We got on the bus straight away to Disney Springs and this is where we find our first snack.
The Strawberry Bubble Waffle from the suitably named AristoCrepes. This is not snack credit eligible, there are menu items that are though. This was a bubble waffle, topped with Vanilla Ice Cream, Whipped Cream, Fresh Strawberries and Strawberry Cereal ‘Pearls’. This was not the prettiest dish I have ever seen but it was a wonderful welcome to America. The waffle was freshly cooked with the hints of vanilla and a crisp outside with squidgy insides. Ice cream, strawberries and cream is a combination that cannot go wrong. It was of course ginormous and we were unable to finish it completely but we made a valiant effort. If you are in Disney Springs between 4pm and 10pm on a week day or 12pm and 10pm at the weekend definitely grab one but I would say tackle with a friend and an empty stomach. (This may become a theme)
The next day was filled with small plates from the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Food Booths. We did, however, pop in the bakery in the Norway pavilion, Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe and got the prettiest lemon cheesecake you have ever seen. This was one of the smoothest cheesecakes I’ve had, such a smooth texture and the lemon flavour was delicate and the base was buttery; Everything you want from a cheesecake. The lemon flavour could have been slightly more in your face for me, but that may just be me as a lemon lover. It did call us back for a second cheesecake later in the holiday and we got so many people asking where it was from that is when you know you are eating a good looking dish. This is a snack credit.
With the popularity of the Incredibles 2 Disney’s Hollywood Studios has created an area dedicated to the film. It includes photo opportunities, character meets, a dance party and the Neighbourhood Bakery. It was here we got our hands on Jack Jack’s Cookie Num Num. This cookie is a large cookie with a crisp edge and a soft centre. It is packed with chocolate and will make you messy when you eat it. This was a fairly standard cookie just super hero sized. If you want the photo or are a big cookie fan the go for it but I’d say this is fairly run of the mill and there are more interesting snacks out there. But it was a good cookie. This is a snack credit.
The Magic Kingdom has so many snack options and so many Disney themed snacks at that. The first on the list is one we had for breakfast from Sleepy Hollow. According to Disney World, Sleepy Hollow is classed as a quick service restaurant, it however does not accept quick service dining plan credits, it does have a few items that are snack credits though hence it inclusion here. We picked up a Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich, this title I feel is slightly misleading as it fails to mention that there is a substantial amount of hazelnut chocolate spread (Nutella) between said waffle and fruit. The fruit was Strawberries, Blueberries and Banana. This was a fantastic way to start the day and is share-able, in fact so far on this list we have shared every single thing. Disney/American portions are big. The fruit really was fresh and the waffle was hot with the Nutella melting and acting as the best tasting glue. I am slowly working my way through Sleepy Hollow’s menu, as it all looks so good. Definitely a must try when in the Magic Kingdom. The fresh fruit waffle is not a snack credit.
It’s Florida in June, which means heat. It was very hot and so we grabbed something to help us cool down. It was the ‘Lost Princess Cone’ a purple cone, with lemon soft serve and edible flowers, inspired by the film Tangled. This is a snack credit. The lemon soft serve really was delicious and refreshing. For me the fear with flavoured soft serve is that the dairy takes over the flavour, in this cone that was not the case. A sharp lemon flavour and a cool temperature; this was the perfect snack that I could eat over and over again. We did share this, although, I could have easily had one all to myself. However sharing Disney snacks leaves room for more Disney snacks and more is, well, more. You can find this at Storybook Treats although you may have difficulty choosing which of their many ice cream based offerings you want to try – good job calories don’t count at Disney!
Another extra shareable snack was the Mickey Celebration Doughnut. I kid you not this was as big as my face and is a snack credit! You can get this with one of the flavoured toppings, Vanilla, Strawberry or Chocolate. We picked the Strawberry one. This was a big pillowy doughnut and the strawberry icing was sweet. As an ‘instagramable’ snack this scores highly. Taste wise if you want a doughnut you will not be disappointed this is a simple doughnut done well and supersized. Grab a friend or two, grab a Mickey Celebration Doughnut and enjoy that sugary hit.
This next treat is one that just shouts Disney World to me, I get one every time I go and I always bring a couple back with me, Rice Crispie Treats. There are many different toppings that you can choose from chocolate to m&m’s to peanut butter chips. This to be fair is a fairly simple treat however for me it is a must get. If you like rice crispie treats made with butter and marshmallow, and who doesn’t, then you have to get one. Use a snack credit in one of the confectionaries and get a mickey shaped treat.
From one classic Disney treat to another the coated apple. The one we got was a beautiful green aple covered with caramel then chocolate and m&m’s. When I tell you this was a taste sensation you must believe me. This tasted fantastic and has shot up the list to become another must get. The marshmallow mickey ears are the finishing touch that makes this almost the perfect treat. I thought that this caramel apple would taste fairly standard and run of the mill. Boy was I wrong. If you don’t get one of these when you are there then you are missing out. We did bring one home and yes it was just as good the second time round. Not a snack credit but so so worth every penny.
Another treat that is on the list of ‘I need at least one or this holiday didn’t happen’ is the Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich. Mickey shaped ice creams may well be the unofficial mascot for Disney snacks. These are available all over the resort from hotels to parks to shops. This ice cream sandwich is a cookies and cream ice cream sandwiched between to chocolate wafers. The wafers are the perfect combination of crisp and soft, definitely not soggy. I, for one, love an ice cream sandwich you can make my week with a Maxibon. But this is mickey shaped and everything tastes better when it’s shaped like mickey, right? This is absolutely worth one of your snack credits.
Next up is a speciality snack available only at Isle of Java in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the chocolate doughnut holes. Now already from this list you can see that chocolate is a big hit with me as is a good doughnut, so this was a no brainer. They are a snack credit on your Disney dining plan. The menu describes them as chocolate doughnut holes rolled in sugar and spice, freshly fried served warm with a chocolate orange glaze. Now tell me that doesn’t sound delicious. Unfortunately what we got was probably the biggest disappointment of the trip. The doughnut holes we got could have injured somebody. Almost impossible to bite through and completely burnt. In fact two of them we couldn’t bite through. The one that we managed to get a bit from had no flavour as it was burnt and that’s all you could taste. The glaze I will say was rich chocolate and had a great flavour of orange and was warm and smooth. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend these doughnut holes; unless you need to weaponise yourself, in that case these would be ideal.
Now this next snack needs to be at the top of your list. It is again an exclusive snack and is not in the easiest of places but it is so worth the journey. Get yourself to Port Orleans French Quarter and get in the queue for freshly fried beignets. You can get 3 or 6 and you have a choice of sauces. We went for 3 without sauce. There is usually a queue for these and you know that’s a good sign. Hot beignets covered with powdered sugar and of course they are mickey shaped. It’s a good job that we were not staying at this resort as if we were my waistline would be double the size because I wouldn’t be able to resist the siren call of these beauties. These beignets are the lightest dreamlike pieces of fried yeasted dough that make any doughnut look like its made of lead. The things dreams are made of go now and get 3 beignets for your Disney snack credit, then another 3 with a second one!
We were there on Donald Duck’s 85thbirthday, whilst there wasn’t a big fuss made about this they did release waffle toppers with characters on. So we got the number one duck he is served on top of the citrus swirl. You can find this at Sunshine Tree Terrace and is a great use of one of your snack credits. This is vanilla soft serve swirled with frozen orange juice. This was one of the most refreshing snacks we had. The orange was sharp and tart and the vanilla was smooth and mellow. One of those pairings that you aren’t sure will work but in fact blows you away. I could eat this any time of the day. The waffle was crisp and sweet but the star is the citrus swirl smooth refreshing and plenty big enough to share.
Speaking of something being big enough to share the name of this final snack alone make it clear that you may need assistance with this. The Colossal Cinnamon Roll from Creature Comforts in Disney’s Animal Kingdom really is just that. It is an already huge cinnamon roll with two more as ears. We had this for breakfast on our last day and it kept us filled up until lunch. This is a great snack to get as a snack credit. Served warm with icing and caramel drizzle this is sticky sweet and delicious. This is sharable and you should definitely give it a go. This would make a brilliant breakfast for your group or a sweet treat with an iced coffee. It was not our first and it will not be our last.
These are the Disney snacks we ate; you will find a couple more in the Quick Service Post that we ate as a quick service meal but you could get as a snack credit cupcakes for example. Hope you enjoyed seeing just what snacks you can get at Disney World and of course there’s so many more that we didn’t get chance to try this time. You will also notice that everything is sweet, Disney World does have savoury snacks too we just didn’t pick these ones this time, oh well, we will have to go back.
Check out what else we ate:
