Disney World Quick Service is another term for counter service. Anywhere you order at a counter and pick up your food. The amount of food on offer in Disney is huge. These are the places that people think of when they think theme park food. Over the counter you can get burgers and ‘fries’ but there are other options and I’m going to share with you what we tackled during our trip In June 2019.
The day of arrival is a day that is full of emotions. You wake up early go through one airport, granted I do enjoy the departures side of an airport. Fly for hours then through border control, pick up your bags, and find your transport to the hotel. Check in sort out room and then hunt for food. A tradition that we have is to visit Disney Springs for our evening meal on the day of arrival. One of the best places to eat for us is Blaze Pizza. The quality of the food is outstanding and the pizza is cooked fresh to order. You watch them build your pizza with what you want then it’s in the oven and cooked in minutes. It’s also by far one of the best value meals in the whole of the Disney World Resort area. We had a tomato base, mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian meatball and sausage. Blaze pizza is somewhere I would happily visit again and again. A true holiday treat that I can’t wait to taste again.
The next quick service spot I graced was Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This was breakfast time and so the menu was breakfast only items. I couldn’t pass up the S’mores French Toast Sandwich. This is French toast filled with chocolate ganache and marshmallow fluff, with graham cracker crumbs on top. This promises so much sugar filled joy. This, to be honest, disappointed me. The French toast was dry and they whole sandwich lacked flavour. Usually Disney does sweet snacks and breakfasts brilliantly, this unfortunately missed the mark with me. However I could have just had a bad batch. It may be a while before I return to Woody’s Lunch Box however I’m sure at some point I will be back to give it another shot. Lunch and Dinner also may well be different to breakfast. Woody’s Lunch Box was crowded lots of people wandering round trying to find a table and the queues were always long. If you’re looking for a quieter breakfast this is not the place for you. However if you want to be in the hustle and bustle of Toy Story Land then this, at this moment in time, is your only option. There is a new table service restaurant in the works though. So Woody’s Lunchbox will still be the only Disney World Quick Service location in Toy Story Land.
The hotel we stayed at only had a Quick Service food hall. So one evening we returned hungry and decided that a pizza in the room was just what was needed. So we got the pizza in a Disney box and took it back to our patch of Disney. The pizza was pillowy and extra cheesey. Pepperoni on top was great. The pizza was huge therefore we did not finish it all. This seems to be fairly true of most American portions at times we shared a meal between us as the serving sizes can be ginormous. The pizza was a good take away pizza but it doesn’t compare to the quality of the pizza from Blaze. Still the size could easily feed a family of four and that would make it good value for money. If you were on the dining plan I believe this large pizza would be two Disney World Quick Service Credits and you would get two drinks with this as well, so it may be worth paying out of pocket as there might be better value for those credits elsewhere. However it can feed a family so family of 4 – 5 for 2 quick service credits might work out for you. Always worth checking with a cast member though.
The Next day, it’s time for breakfast. Coffee and chocolate croissant on the menu coffee was good Joffrey’s Coffee, a Floridian coffee company that have partnered with Disney. The croissant was flaky and buttery with rich chocolate. All in all, great way to set me up for a day at Disney World. The bakery section at our resort was probably the best part of the food court. Plenty of choice with some exceptional treats.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of our favourite parks. It not only is a fun day out but I always come away having learnt something. The food offerings give you the opportunity to be as adventurous as you wish. In the Asia section of the park you find The Yak & Yeti Quick Service location. We decided to try it, as Asian food is a favourite in our household. I had the ‘special’, which was tempura shrimp with sweet and sour sauce and rice, the better half had beef stir-fry. The sweet and sour sauce was great a good amount of tang to offset the sweetness and the batter was light and not at all greasy. The rice was sticky enough to use chopsticks. Both dishes were good and I would happily return definitely somewhere to check out if you’re there. This is a busy location and whilst there are plenty of seats you may find yourself making friends and sharing tables. Also there may well be weaving between strollers and buggies trying to avoid dropping a tray of food on them or yourself. But the food is tasty and you may have some interesting conversation with new Disney friends.
Next up on Quick Service is Chicken Guy! This is a new restaurant owned by Guy Fieri. I first came across Guy Feiri on Food Network so this was a great chance to try his food. Chicken Guy! is a chicken focused place to eat with a spotlight on all natural chicken tenders. You can go grilled or breaded and fried, and the sauce list contains 22 different sauces! I guess the sauces alone could tempt you back to taste them. However the chicken and fries were truly great! We shared a meal here and had 5 tenders and chicken guy fries. The seasoning on the fries made you want to keep eating and the chicken was so tender and the coating was very flavourful. I would definitely head back and I would definitely share a meal again. The great thing about Disney World Quick Service is that it’s easy to share a meal and with American portions this is very welcome. If you are in Disney Springs then this should be on your list. It also happens to be one of the most affordable options at Disney Springs.
As part of my fiancée’s birthday present this year I bought tickets to Disney’s H20 Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon. This is a special ticket event night that gets you access to the water park from 6pm and the event officially starts at 8pm and run until 11pm. This was such a great night with special characters, floats, a dance party on the beach as well as event exclusive food and drink! This was such a fun evening experiencing the water park as the sun sets is one thing but for it to be a giant party was awesome. The food we ate had definite highs and lows. We first tackled the Pork Kabob this was described as Pork Kebob, jicama slaw, kumquat preserves, pineapple, and watermelon topped with micro greens. This was served cold and the fruit was the best thing on the plate. Unfortunately the jicama slaw didn’t have any flavour and was just a cold crunch and the pork was cold and fairly dry. So this was disappointing, I felt that this could have been executed much better. We also got a event exclusive drink as well we got the ‘Glowing Unicorn’ again this on the menu is described as Non-alcoholic violet colada with a glow cube, rainbow whipped cream, edible shimmer glitter, and a twist candy lollipop. This was very sweet, I have a sweet tooth but this was a sugar attack. Between us we couldn’t even manage half of this as it was so sweet.
However now we come to the highlight of the food offerings at H2O Glow Nights the Bathtub Party Sundae. This was themed after the Pixar short film Partysaurus Rex. This was really a complete fail safe, it would be very difficult to get it wrong. Vanilla Ice Cream, Confetti Cake, Whipped Cream, Sprinkles & White Chocolate rubber ducks – you really can’t do that badly. We wolfed this down and you get to keep the Bathtub it’s served in! It’s hiding in a cupboard in the kitchen and I am currently waiting for an excuse to use it. This was really brilliant and to be completely honest was great value for money as an event. H20 Glow Nights is definitely something to check out and grab that Bathtub Party Sundae between riding every ride multiple times.
Final thing on this list is a lunch we had whilst we were exploring the resorts on the monorail line. This is an activity that I suggest you do, it’s a great way to experience a slightly more relaxed day whilst still being in the Disney World bubble. The monorail resorts are all deluxe and offer various places to eat from grab and go to fine dining. We went somewhere new Gasparilla Island Grill in the Grand Floridian, this is a quick service restaurant and has such a nice relaxed feel. The cast members were also some of the best we encountered during our trip. We shared a meal here again, starting with a pizza. We went for a Sausage & Mozzarella Pizza. This came with red & yellow bell peppers on as well. The sausage was super flavourful with notes of fennel that complimented the pork sausage really well. The sweet peppers and the creamy cheese with a tomato base combined to create a great lunch. It does state on the menu this is an individual pizza and I could have eaten it all however if you want to try a dessert as well, why not share. Although you’re on holiday so calories really don’t count, do they? I got a frozen blended mocha this was Joffrey’s coffee with milk and mocha flavours blended and topped with a drizzle and whipped cream. This was fantastic and definitely something I’ll be back for, cooling whilst giving you that mid afternoon caffeine kick. We also grabbed a lemon and blueberry cupcake. This was a lemon sponge with lemon frosting and filled with blueberry compote. The decoration was simple and elegant the rock sugar ‘rim’ round the side also helps keep fingers a little cleaner. The perfect cupcake needs to not only be sweet it has to have a punch of flavour and a good ratio of cake to topping. This was a great combination. And was completely finished. The hardest choice you’ll have here is deciding which dessert to grab, as the options are plentiful. Definitely somewhere to visit and was really quiet mid afternoon, there was never anyone on tables next to us as there were plenty of places to sit. This may well be different come breakfast before many guests go to the parks and after parks have closed.
Disney World Quick Service options really do allow you to be as adventurous as you want to be. This is what we ate and we tried to go to new places for us this time, in fact Blaze Pizza is the only repeat offender on this list.
